Google Just Changed Everything. Here’s What It Means For Your Video Content.
If you run a business and you have been paying attention to your website traffic over the past year, you have probably noticed something strange.
Your rankings might be the same. Your content might be better than ever. And yet, the phone is ringing less.
You are not imagining things.
Google has been busy. Really busy. And the way people find your business online has shifted in ways that most marketing advice has not caught up with yet. Here is what is actually happening and what it means for your video content.
The Old Rules Don’t Work Anymore
For years, the game was simple. Write blogs, stuff in some keywords, build links, rank higher. It was a productivity contest. More content, more pages, more keywords.
That game is over.
Google’s March 2026 core update was one of the most aggressive in recent memory. Nearly 80 percent of the top three results changed position. One in four pages that were in the top ten fell completely out of the top 100. Then in May, they did it again. The May update hit even harder than March.
What is Google doing? They are trying to surface content that is actually satisfying, not just content that is optimized to death. They want real answers, not fluff.
The shift is called “information gain”. Google is now explicitly evaluating how much genuinely new information a page contributes compared to content that already ranks for the same query. If you are just rewording what everyone else has already said, you are going to drop.
AI Overviews Are Changing Everything
Here is the biggest shift that most businesses have not fully grasped yet.
When someone searches for something on Google now, they often get an AI-generated summary at the top of the page before they see any links. Google’s Gemini model pulls information from multiple sources and synthesizes it into one answer.
The old goal was to rank number one. The new goal is to be the source Google cites inside that AI summary. Ranking number one is useless if the AI does not cite you.
Here is the hard number: position-one click-through rates collapsed from 27 percent to 11 percent when AI Overviews are present. That is a massive drop. But here is the flip side: brands cited within AI Overviews report higher volumes of both organic and paid clicks than those that do not appear.
Being cited inside an AI Overview is now worth more than holding position three in the classic listing.
Video Is More Important Than Ever
Here is where things get interesting for you.
More than 25 percent of Google search results now include a video snippet. Video results have jumped from appearing in 28 percent of search results pages in January 2024 to 46 percent in January 2026.
Google’s AI tools are starting to summarize and reference videos directly in their answers. That means your video content is not just competing on YouTube anymore. It is competing inside Google’s AI summaries.
The teams winning right now are the ones building trust across multiple formats, not just optimizing pages for crawlers. Video is a huge part of that.
What This Means For Your Business
If you are a manufacturer, a construction company, or an industrial business, this shift is actually good news for you.
Here is why.
Your work is visual. Your products are physical. Your processes are complex. A blog post can describe what you do. A video can show it. And Google is now prioritizing visual content in a way it never has before.
But here is the catch. Google is also getting better at spotting content that is just there to fill space. AI-generated fluff, thin content, recycled information. That stuff is not going to work anymore.
What works now is real expertise. Original thinking. Content that actually helps someone. And nothing communicates real expertise faster than a video of your actual facility, your actual people, and your actual process.
The One Thing You Need To Do Right Now
Stop thinking of video as a marketing extra. Start thinking of it as the core of your content strategy.
If you are still relying on blog posts and PDFs to win business, you are falling behind. Your competitors are already using video to show their capability, build trust, and win bids. And Google is rewarding them for it.
The businesses that adapt early will dominate visibility. The ones that do not will quietly fade from search.
A Quick Note On How We Work
At Skyrex Productions, we make documentary-style videos for manufacturing and industrial companies. Facility tours, process videos, employee stories. The kind of content that shows potential clients exactly what you can do.
We are not a flashy ad agency. We are filmmakers who understand how to capture real people doing real work. And we know how to create content that Google actually wants to show people.
If you are ready to stop losing bids to competitors with better video, let us talk.
